The future of home assistance has taken a significant leap forward with 1X Technologies’ unveiling of their latest humanoid robot, NEO Gamma. Designed to seamlessly integrate into domestic environments, NEO Gamma combines advanced artificial intelligence with human-like movements to perform a variety of household tasks.

Natural Human Gait and Movement

NEO Gamma is engineered to navigate home settings with a natural human gait, complete with arm swings. It can squat to pick up items from the floor and sit in chairs, enhancing its ability to interact with various household scenarios. These dynamic control skills are achieved through reinforcement learning from human motion capture data, allowing NEO Gamma to perform tasks that were previously challenging for robots.

Advanced Visual Manipulation

Equipped with a sophisticated visual manipulation model, NEO Gamma can identify and handle a wide range of objects, even in unfamiliar environments. This capability is powered by neural networks trained to predict teleoperated actions directly from raw sensor data, enabling the robot to adapt to new tasks and settings with minimal human intervention.

In-House Language Model for Natural Interaction

To facilitate seamless human-robot interaction, 1X has developed an in-house large language model (LLM) that enables NEO Gamma to engage in natural conversations and exhibit appropriate body language. This “companion feature” includes a conversational voice interface, making interactions with NEO Gamma intuitive and user-friendly.

Design and Safety Features

NEO Gamma’s design emphasizes both aesthetics and safety. The robot features a minimalist appearance with a new head shape intended to evoke comfort and familiarity. Its knit suit and shoes are 3D printed from soft, durable nylon, allowing flexibility during movement. Soft covers encase its tendon-driven joints, enhancing passive safety and reducing the risk of injury during interactions.

Enhanced Hardware and Audio

Significant hardware upgrades make NEO Gamma quieter and more reliable, with a tenfold increase in hardware reliability and a 10 dB reduction in operational noise. The robot is equipped with four microphones featuring beamforming and echo cancellation for clear audio capture, and a three-speaker system that delivers 360-degree sound, enhancing its interactive capabilities.

A Step Closer to Home Integration

With NEO Gamma, 1X Technologies aims to bring humanoid robots into everyday life, assisting with tasks such as tidying, deep cleaning, and home management. The company’s CEO, Bernt Børnich, emphasizes the importance of developing robots alongside humans to ensure they understand the nuances of human life and can adapt to the unpredictability of home environments.
